Dragging it up with a “Bosom Buddies” script

TBosom_Buddieshe 80’s comedy “Bosom Buddies” gave the viewing public their first introduction to Mega-Star Tom Hanks.  I was only a kid when the show was on, but remembered thinking “This guy is really funny.  I hope he sticks around.”  And as it so happens…

Tom Hanks has a real energy, presence, and likability factor about him that is just so hard to find in many actors.  He was perfectly cast in this sitcom, which helped to shoot him to Super Stardom.

Bosom_Buddies_Hanks_Scolari‘Bosom Buddies’ aired on ABC from 1980 – 1982.  Though it only lasted two seasons, I haven’t met a person yet who hasn’t heard of it.  It followed the lives of two admen, Kip Wilson (Tom Hanks) and Henry Desmond (Peter Scolari, better known as Michael Harris from the television show “Newhart”), who suddenly find themselves homeless.  Through the help of their friend (the late Wendy Jo Sperber  – Marty McFly’s sister in “Back to the Future), they find a cheap apartment, but the catch is — it’s in a hotel for women only.  So what do two guys do in a situation like this?  Well, they dress up as women, of course, and move in.  And there is the setup to “Bosom Buddies.”

The show also starred Holland Taylor (most famous for playing Charlie Sheen’s mother on “Two and a Half Men”), Telma Hopkins (“Gimme a Break,” “Family Matters”) and the super-hot Donna Dixon (“Spies Like Us,” “Wayne’s World” and also Mrs. Dan Aykroyd).

Bosom Buddies redoSo I chose to post a “Bosom Buddies” script for two reasons.  The first is that I just came upon the fantastic shot for shot opening credits remake of the show, which has the famous opening theme “My Life” written by Billy Joel.  This parody stars Adam Scott (“Party Down,” “Parks and Recreation”) and Paul Rudd (“This is 40” and the upcoming film “Ant-Man”) from a series of shorts called “The Greatest Event in Television History” on Adultswim.com.  I’ve embedded this short below.

Lone Trop TardAnd secondly, a slight reparation to Tom Hanks for creating a new name (and rating system) for bad movies (Trop Tard) inspired from the French Movie Poster for Hanks’ film “Larry Crowne.  He really is a fantastic actor and has done a number of great films. And although everyone does have a bomb from time to time, “Larry Crowne” really was a terrible film.  I give it four Trop Tards.

Anyhow, the “Bosom Buddies” script that I posted here is called “Hildy’s Dirt Nap.”  It was from season two of the show and aired on February 11, 1982.

Synopsis (from TV.com): An immigrant gets a crush on Hildy, much to the dismay of Henry. In an attempt to get out of the impending marriage proposal Kip and Henry fake Hildy’s death and hold a funeral.
