Several years ago, I wrote a TV pilot called Jenny… In Training about a sharp, slightly edgy young woman searching for her place in life. On the brink of leaving home for college and tasting freedom for the first time, her future suddenly collapses. Her parents have blown through her college fund and are kicking her out. Suddenly, she’s on her own in a small apartment, forced to find a job, pay bills, and navigate adulthood without a safety net.
And just as she thinks she’s all alone, she finds that her favorite childhood stuffed monkey—the one she still sleeps with—starts showing up in her dreams, appointing himself as her unsolicited guide through life. And if that isn’t weird enough for Jenny, now that she’s got some distance from her family, she begins to see them for what they really are… much stranger than she ever realized.
Life just got weird for Jenny.
This pilot took first place for Best TV Pilot at the New York International Screenplay Awards a few years ago. But even with that kind of recognition, getting a project like this seen is never easy. I’ve always wanted to create a visual piece to bring the story to life—I just hadn’t found the time until now.
So, I’m happy to finally share the sizzle reel for Jenny… In Training.
