Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection – Why Did It Sell Out? And Other Answers

If you’re a Ghostbusters fan, then the recently released Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection Box Set was the collection you wanted to own.  Released February 1st, it included Blu-rays and 4k disks for Ghostbusters I, II, Afterlife, along with digital codes for all three films, additionally including the 2016 reboot Answer the Call.  Plus a mini reproduction of the fantastic 1980’s book “Making Ghostbusters.”

But the main selling point, at least for me, were the two bonus discs that were included that not only had a ton of never before seen extras for Ghostbusters I and II, but the first cut (workprint) for the original Ghostbusters, sans music and effects.  It’s a true window into the film-making process for that movie.

But lets talk about the big problem with this box set. They didn’t make enough of them to meet the demand.  Sony failed to mention at pre-order that this Ghostbusters Box Set was being released as a limited edition.  And they were not going to produce these sets in unlimited bulk amounts.  In other words, if you didn’t order it right away, you most likely weren’t going to get one.  I understand that it sold out very quickly.  Now a few more did pop up here and there for presale which is how I managed to snag one.

By the time I was aware of the set, it was already sold out.  But as luck would have it, I went to Target’s website the night before release and hit their little “notify me when it’s back” button.  And because of my night-owl-ness, I received an “in stock” notification in the middle of the night and purchased a copy immediately.  And about 2 minutes later, it was out of stock again.  So, I got lucky.  Right place, right time, no sleep.

Anyhow, Sony ‘may’ make more of these if they deem the demand warranted.  I’ll put their contact info below so you may want to bug them.  Who knows?  It may help.

So my video below not only touches upon all of the information above, but it also goes into how some of the box sets people received were a little messed up.  I also go into the differences between the US and UK Ghostbusters Box Sets.  And I show you the difference in size between the full-sized “Making Ghostbusters” book and the mini one included with this set.  I also do a little flip through of another Ghostbusters book released a few years ago that I highly recommend.  So if interested, please check it out.
